After growing up as an athlete (actually, wannabe athlete) in Boston, then going to school for business, Alan found himself one day outside a Virginia Beach theater during a sales trip. After stepping in to see the August Wilson play, FENCES, Alan stepped back out knowing for the first time what he wanted to do with his life. Three years later, while working professionally in Baltimore, he met August Wilson in person at Baltimore’s Center Stage. Then a national commercial, and a few films (Guarding Tess/Foreign Student) got him enough money to move to LA to study with Sanford Meisner,
Once in LA, he booked roles on stage, commercials, film and TV before being an official selection of the HBO ASPEN COMEDY FESTIVAL, a teacher, and more importantly, a father. When his second child was diagnosed with autism, Alan wrote about it in his critically-acclaimed solo play, A Child Left Behind, which was seen across the country. For the next ten years, he performed his solo work, did stand-up, starred in a short film that featured Kyle Bornheimer, Wolfgang Bodison, and Scoot McNairy, and wrote the award winning Best New Play, RAP, that was produced to critical acclaim in Los Angeles. Alan and his family currently live in LA where he is proud to say he is still a Boston Sports Fan.
